Emerging Approaches, Emerging Thought

The primary emphasis of our programs is to expose senior leaders and high-potential managers to new and emerging approaches to business process improvements and to provide a forum for debating the relevance and applicability of such ideas to corporate and government leaders.  These programs focus on a range of issues dealing with planning, strategy, improved thinking, effective use and transfer of information, business process design, and effective implementation tactics.  By integrating knowledge, practical applications and timely solutions, our programs and services help executives and organizations identify external forces of global business and develop competitive advantages.

Content Offerings - Full and Half Day Programs

With many years of combined experience as facilitators, Frew & Associates is unique in our facilitation style because we ask hard questions at the right time, as well as recognize and respond to a “learning moment” during an event.  We pride ourselves on providing deep learning events, where individuals frequently experience a “life changing” occurrence that has a positive, significant impact, both professionally and personally.  Our programs help improve trust, teaming, communication, alignment, decision-making, performance, and execution.  We provide management and leadership tools that help individuals become better managers and leaders, faster. 

Appreciative Inquiry

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) builds on the positive aspects of human nature.  We work best when our gifts (strengths) are noticed and utilized.  We work best when conditions for exceptional performance are enhanced.  We each need to be seen as essential to the group. Creating positive images through meaningful contributions will help create a positive future.  We build energy for others when people can express and experience their “full voice” about the good, better and possible.

Half-day or full-day workshops include interactive exercises and explain in depth the Appreciative Inquiry 5-Cycle model (Definition, Discovery, Dream, Design, & Destiny/Delivery) that emphasizes positive possibilities, new insights and understandings, meaning of work, and brings out the best in people, relationships, and situations using a strengths-based approach.

The benefits of AI in an organization allows individuals to shift their personal way of being and seeing to an appreciative approach; helping individuals, teams, and organizations focus on what’s right in their organization, rather than on what’s wrong, so that an individual, team, or organization can deeply inquire into what’s right and why, and then find ways of intentionally creating more of what’s right in the organization.        

Health & Wellness

Health & Wellness is a personal choice one makes to assume responsibility for the quality of life physically, mentally/intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.  It’s a mindset (designed by one’s personal needs, situation and experiences) that allows an individual to become more personally aware and make better choices.  Our 2-hour interactive program provides participants an introductory look at the benefits of building a balanced and healthier lifestyle.  By learning simple techniques that help kick-start positive life-forming habits through nutrition, exercise, and High Order Thought™, participants will be given a simple framework, through which each individual can pursue their performance goals.

Half-day and full-day workshops include an introduction into Health & Wellness and include more comprehensive coverage of selected topic(s) to address the needs of a particular group. Potential topics include:

  • Finding the motivation to exercise
  • Eating in moderation versus dieting
  • The importance and benefits of rest and recovery
  • Information on Couch to 5k walk/runs (half marathons/full marathons)  

In addition, an extra-curricular voluntary early morning exercise can be made available for groups.

Benefits to employees adopting a healthier lifestyle include weight loss, stress reduction, better fitness and self-esteem, better mental state, along with better thinking and greater well-being.  The workplace can have an impact on improving the physical, mental and spiritual health of its employees, as a large portion of a person’s day is spent at work.  The worksite can be a great place to promote healthy habits that become powerful influences on the organizational culture and behaviors.  

High Order ThoughtTM

The High Order ThoughtTM (HOT) framework exposes the possibility and the opportunity for individuals to raise potential, capacity, capability, and performance levels regardless of circumstance.  Intentionally tapping the energy of the heart and energy of the intellect provides an environment for increased confidence and satisfaction in any endeavor in any circumstance.  High Order ThoughtTM enables an awareness of multiple truths; openness to possibilities without limitation and beyond imagination; Raising awareness of illusions and managing energy; and drives clarity of thought.  The fundamental variables of High Order ThoughtTM are:

  • State of Mind
  • Thinking
  • Communicating
  • Reflecting  

A half-day session includes an understanding of how to apply High Order High Order ThoughtTM which enables better decision making and execution to radically improve an individual or organization.  A full-day session dives deeper into the central importance of fundamental variables:  state-of-mind, managing energy and illusions, thinking, communicating, and reflecting in real-time.

The benefits of using High Order ThoughtTM principles also increases capacity for better communication, higher quality choices, and more effective leadership.  High Order ThoughtTM  increases personal and organizational performance and effectiveness by applying improved thinking and communication, building higher levels of trust and relationships, and using increased awareness and tolerance.  Additionally, it increases organizational efficiency by simplifying processes, removing rework, reducing confusion and fear, increasing collaboration, and increasing focus.

Polarity Thinking & Behaving

This experience provides an introduction into Polarity Thinking, how to recognize and leverage polarities.  Polarities are situations that need to be managed versus being a problem to solve.

A half-day session will help individuals recognize and describe the phenomenon of polarities.  It enables individuals’ to supplement “either/or” thinking and choices with “both/and” thinking and choices,by raising the impact of all decisions.

A full-day program includes the introduction to Polarity Thinking, how to recognize, describe and map polarities.  In addition, participants will begin to see culture that may be aligned “either/or thinking” too heavily or might be undervalued or under-recognized, and learn from it to help the organization find a different/better way to function as a whole.

Benefits of Polarity Thinking can be used as a way to improve business performance by giving individuals a way to “see” there may be more than one solution to a situation.  In addition, an assessment can be included and specially designed maps customized specific to the organization.

Frew & Associates uses the mind mapping technique to help individuals and organizations view things in a different way using a tool to visualize thinking through graphical techniques.  Through a mind-friendly and simple-to-use interface, people can visualize their thinking, quickly arrange and organize and re-organize their work, and show how to execute ideas.  We use this tool to share thoughts and knowledge, hold more effective meetings, be more creative through brainstorming, structure thinking processes, and increase productivity.  A sample of how we use the mind mapping tool is below.

Thinking and Behaving: Provides assessments to help individuals understand preferences and motivations for thinking and behaving. Leading Change: Provides insight on personal and organizational change relationships.
Social Networks: Focuses on the power of communication and collaboration through leveraging trusted social networks in the workplace. Execution: Focuses on the difference between knowing what to do and doing it.
Leadership: Presents key aspects of the art of leadership from every level in the organization. Decision Making: Provides proven methods for making critical business decisions.
Alignment: Demonstrates methods for measuring and improving alignment of people, customers, strategy and processes. Globalization: Identifies global trends that present the biggest challenges for the future and how to prepare.

Expanding Boundaries Program

This seminar series focuses on improving organizations by educating a cross-section of its members, from the ground up to the senior executives in order to cultivate learning and sharing ideas at all levels. A mixture of topics helps each individual gain a better understanding of themselves, each other, and the organization. The experience will lead to better leadership and vision and better solutions to the challenges that face leaders everyday. Each session is facilitated to enhance this learning experience. Courses are tailored to include assessments that build better frameworks for understanding personality differences and how interpersonal interactions and thinking preferences can impact the workplace and environment. Groups learn how to develop improved communication along with a better understanding of the value of diversity in the workplace. Another course facet is change readiness. Courses examine individual and corporate comfort zones, awareness zones, emerging ideas, and change behaviors and how change can positively impact an organization. By evaluating both sustaining and disruptive technologies an organization can also learn about their performance over time and learn how to improve processes. By also focusing on leadership and authority and the differences between them, we go back to the basics and show that leadership is about people: the organization's most valuable asset. And as a leader, one must recognize the proper balance between controlling risk and fueling risk. Expect all sessions to be extremely interactive with a minimum of classroom lecture. The setting is designed to allow for brainstorming without stifling innovation or ideas. Each attendee should speak without the fear of reprimand or consequence from anyone in the organization, as this forum is intended to build up the company and individual networks. This course is designed to help employees translate what they learn into actionable practices that they can place into their daily operations to create a better working environment, which in turn will achieve more for the company as a whole.

Frew & Associates utilizes assessments focused on addressing and building awareness around individual development, improving the strength andeffectiveness of teams and growing synergistic cultures within organizations. As certified practitioners, we provide our clients with an in-depth look aimed at identifying the critical needs of individuals, teams, and organizations.  This deep dive helps client teams/individuals improve awareness of self and others’, preferences, behaviors, styles, teaming, trust, communication, alignment, performance, and execution.  Our half-day and full-day seminars, and executive coaching engagements include assessment administration and debriefs.

With 35+ years of designing, administering, analyzing and debriefing assessments, Frew & Associates has the expertise to translate assessment results into meaningful and useful information to increase performance effectiveness. 

Assessments

Frew & Associates Performance 360®

This assessment is unique in the market place and draws on three sources of research.  It blends the research on leadership and performance competencies with the research involving  underlying fundamentals that enable those competencies to thrive and finally the idea of interdependent value pairs.  This assessment merges those three ideas and measures 9 leadership polarities that drive the generation of competencies but are often invisible underlying fundamentals for those competencies. It measures the degree to which individuals being assessed are trusting and trustworthy, thinking and doing, listening and speaking effectively, developing self and developing others, managing stability and leading change, managing time and managing energy, leading with authority and leading without authority, leveraging emotions and leveraging intellect, and displaying visionary thinking and grounded thinking.  We believe all of these are both/and choices to be leveraged as opposed to either/or choices which are preference or behavior driven only.           

The Polarity Assessment for Organizations                       

Polarity Assessment has a dual purpose of helping organizations become more successful immediately and over time; and to increase an organizations ability to see, map, and tap, the energy system and power of interdependent pairs, often called tensions, paradox, or polarity.  It can be used in any organizational setting by selecting any polarity of interest and using the language of the organization being assessed.  Each assessment is custom designed to an organization’s needs.  Many different research sources have uncovered that leaders and organizations that manage polarity better distinguishes them in the market place.  This research is primarily the work of Dr. Barry Johnson of Polarity Management Associates.

Thinking Intentions Profile (TIP)                       

The TIP is a widely known and respected instrument for understanding how people prefer to think.  TIP is a carefully designed instrument; the only one to focus on the entire cognitive range of the brain.  An awareness of thinking style identifies the individual patterns of mind, which shape how people tackle problems, work on projects, and approach a situation.  It introduces the concept of thinking-intentions as the route to enhancement and enlargement of thought.  This robust and highly leverageable effective intelligence concept came from the research of Jerry Rhodes.

Strengths-Based Leadership

The StrengthsFinder (SF) assessment tool provides results that can produce increases in employee engagement.  Engagement, in turn, can improve business outcomes by boosting retention, productivity, profitability, and customer engagement.  A strengths development strategy can not only dramatically boost employee engagement; it can also substantially decrease disengagement. The SF was developed by the Gallup organization.

Keirsey Temperament Sorter II (derivative of Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI))

The Keirsey Temperament Sorter®-II (KTS®-II) is the most widely used personality instrument in the world. helps individuals learn from one another, improve individual and team performance, nurture and retain top talent, develop leadership at every level of an organization, and reduce workplace conflict.  From developing more productive work teams to building closer relationships, the KTS®-II can improve the quality of life for individuals, teams, and organizations.  It is a powerful 70 question personality instrument that helps individuals discover their personality type. The KTS-II is based on Keirsey Temperament Theory™, published in Please Understand Me® and Please Understand Me II, by Dr. David Keirsey.

Social Style and Versatility

The Social Style model is based on objective observable behavior that people can agree on.  Observations are grouped into assertiveness and responsive behaviors, which are independent variables of one another.  Both of those behaviors have verbal and non-verbal components.  Each is also a unique combination of behaviors: ask/tell for assertiveness, and emote and control for responsiveness.  A rich history including US Navy, Universities, and Merrill and Reid generated much of the early understanding.  Current and on-going research on social styles is being provided by the TRACOM organization.

Social Networks of Trust                       

Network Analysis is a diagnostic tool that gives you a bird’s-eye view of your organization’s knowledge capital.  The analysis of knowledge capital is based on the scientific measurement of the DNA of a network.  Network Analysis provides visibility and measurement of the trust relationships that exist in an organization and also helps identify key connectors within an organization.  This information gives valuable insight for leading change, succession planning and even day-to-day operation.   This tool stems from the ground-breaking research of Dr. Karen Stephenson.
